A recent, growing interest in regenerative medicine has led to innovations in regenerative skincare, including topical probiotics that balance the microbiome to help restore and rejuvenate the skin, making it appear healthier and younger. Topical regimens such as BIOJUVE™ by Crown Aesthetics New Biome-Based Technology Offers Novel Approach to Optimizing Skin Health and Aesthetics(Johnson City, Tenn.), a novel biome-based approach to comprehensive skin health, not only balance the skin’s microbiome to improve its appearance, but also support the healing process pre-and post-treatment.

According to Anna Paré, MD, president of Dermatology Consultants, a dermatology practice in Atlanta, Ga., the skin’s microbiome is a complex balance between various types of bacteria. “When this microbiome is out of balance, it may lead to dryness, itchiness, flakiness and redness of the skin,” she explained. Dr. Paré noted that BIOJUVE is an approach that creates balance in the epidermal layers of the skin to promote calming benefits for improvements in the appearance of texture, pigment and collagen production.

“What interests me as a physician is that BIOJUVE utilizes a very novel approach to optimizing skin health,” Dr. Paré continued. “It works very differently than other topicals because it stabilizes the skin microbiome. As a standalone we see improvements in the appearance of skin texture, tone, pore size, fine lines and wrinkles in typically two to three weeks.”* Dr. Paré mentioned that she incorporates BIOJUVE often to balance the skin microbiome and post-treatment to support the healing process.

“BIOJUVE leverages the beneficial properties of specific Before and eight weeks after twice daily application of BIOJUVE* Photos courtesy of Crown Aestheticsstrains of the skin bacterium Cutibacterium acnes (C. acnes) to enhance skin health,” reported David Weir, MSN, NP-C, from the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute (Dallas, Texas). “This approach focuses on C. acnes [subspecies] defendens, which enhances skin health and symbiosis.”

Clinical evidence1 suggests that topical probiotic formulations containing this beneficial skinnative strain may improve hydration, balance the appearance of redness and sebum, and reduce (or improve) the appearance of texture.

“By integrating BIOJUVE with advanced aesthetic treatments such as microneedling, chemical peels and laser therapies, I have been able to maximize the treatment benefits and promote quicker recovery times by optimizing the skin microbiome,” Mr. Weir added. “This synergistic approach helps effectively maximize the potential for healthier, clearer and more resilient skin.”

According to Mr. Weir, he has patients use BIOJUVE before a chemical peel to prepare the skin for treatment and after to help soothe post-treatment outcomes. He also pairs the topical system with laser therapies to optimize recovery and incorporates it before and after injectables to prolong treatment results.

“Incorporating BIOJUVE into my practice has enhanced the quality of care I provide to my patients, particularly those with disrupted skin barriers due to an unbalanced skin microbiome,” Mr. Weir noted. “Overall, BIOJUVE has become a cornerstone in my practice, supporting my goal of providing holistic, effective and innovative skin biome care solutions.”
